i • The second annual general meeting of the New Zealand Friendly Societies' Abso- ' ciation for the Interchange of Medical [ Benefits was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Selwyn Street, Sydenham, on Tuesday , last, the following Orders being represented :— M.U., I.O.O.F.— Loyal Addingi ton, City of Christchurch, City of Norwich (Lyttelton), Coleridge, Benevolent, Heart of Oak (Kaikoura), Papanui, Phillipstown, Eangiora and Timarn Lodges. A.C., I.O.O.F.— Prebbleton, Victoria (Geraldine), Wallace (Westland) and Washington Lodges. U.A.O.D.— Bad of Hope, Oak of Sydenham, Old Oak, Star of Ashbnrton and Timaru Lodges. P.A.S.F. of A.— Pride of Ngapara, Queen's Own, Eoyal Standard, Star of Oamaru and Triumph (Dunedin) Lodges. S.D.T.— Elim, Excelsior and Progresa Divisions. A.O.F.— Court Clarendon (Picton). H.A.C.B.S.— St Patrick's Branch, No. 82. I.O.E.— Eden Tent, No. 2 (Auckland). The Chairman of the Association (Bro G. J. Sellars) stated that since the last annual meeting the number of Lodges, &c. affiliated had been doubled, there being a total of one hundred and three Lodges, Courts, &c. Overtures had been made to the Dunedin Association with a view to amalgamation, and there waa every reason to anticipate that during the current year this would be accomplished. A letter was read from his Excellency Lord Glasgow, E.C.M.G., [in reply to the letter of sympathy relative to the loes of H.M.S. Victoria and the death of Admiral Tryon, &c, passed at the special meeting of the Association in June last. The balance-sheet for the year was adopted; it showed receipts £11 16s sd, and expenditure £7 17s, leaving a balance of M 19s sd. A . considerable amount of discussion arose over the circulated report of the meeting of the New Zealand Medical Association, wherein several proposals were made affecting Friendly Societies. Eventually the following resolution was decided upon:— "That the Executive Committee of this Association be authorised to draft a circular-letter, to be sent to eaoh Lodge belonging to this Association drawing attention to the discussion which arose at the meeting of the Medical Association held in Auckland last year, and asking 'that the Lodges Bhould give the questions referred to the most careful consideration, in view of the important effect any resolutions of the Medical Association, meeting in Napier in April next, will have upon the welfare of Friendly Societies, and that the Friendly Societies' Conference be asked to watch over? the interests of this Association in their dealings with the Medical Association." The election of officers for the ensuing year was then .proceeded with. Bro G. J. Sellars waa unanimously re-elected chairman; Bro J. A. Clarke, secretary; and J3ro A~! Bleach, treasurer. Bros E. M. < :> Griffith3, H. S. Skinner, A. Palmer, J. Fisher and L. Haughey were elected as a committee. Bro A. Bleach gave notice to move at ' next meeting — " That a vice-president be elected." Eesolved— " That in accordance with Rule 12 a levy of a halfpenny per member be made for the ensuing year." There being no further business the meeting closed.
