CRICKET.

Hawke's Bay v. New South Wales. [Pbr Pbbss Association.] ; NAPIEE, JAN. 24. The weather was fine but somewhat too hot for the cricket match New South Wales v. Hawke's Bay, which was commenced on the Recreation Gronnd to-day. The wicket was very good and fast. The home team won the tosa and elected to bat. At first wickets fell fast, Woletenholme, on whom great hopes were placed, being run out very early in the game. At the fall of the fourth wicket the score was only 55. Bruce and Gore then got together and ran the score to 10, when they were caught almost together. The only other player who made any stand was White, who carried his bat for 24. and the innings closed for 112. The bowling of the visitors was dead on the wicket, Gould and Miller being especially destructive, taking Beven wickets between them for 50 runs. Cowley and Moore went to the wickets for the visitors, and soon collared the bowling, knocking the ball about merrily. The former soon ran up 42, including three 4's. Moore played a much more cautious game, putting 12 to his credit with careful play ; When time was called the score stood at 60 without the loss of a wicket. Scores :—
