Meeting of Creditors.

m The firßt meeting of creditors in the ' estate of Bobert Cotton, ot Chriatchurch, accountant, was held this morning. There were six creditors present, Mr Deacon appearing for the bankrupt, whose statement showed :— Unsecured creditors .£256 12a lid, secured creditors £100 (the security was not an asset in the estate) ; total debts £356 12s lid ; asset? nil. The following are the principal unsecured creditors : — J. B. Sheath, Bangiora, £30 18s lOd ; E. B. Good, Bangioca, £8 13s 7d; W. Bridget, £5 16s 7d; J. Sansom, £10 143 6d ; W. H. Luxton, £5 7s 8d ,- Dr Volckman, £12 153 4d ; J. Johnston, £1S 16s lOd; B. J. Parrott, £29 16a lOd ; G. F. Smith, £9 Is 6d ; A. W. Parsons, Lyttelton, £7 lie 4d ; Fletcher, Humphreys and Co., £5 6s 8d ; Strange and Co., £5 11s 9d ; J. Robinson, Papanui, £20; S. Phillips, Christchurch, £25. The secured creditor was Mr G. H. N. Helmore, who held a security over the bankrupt's life policy. The bankrupt stated that he had resided in Canterbury since 1870. He had been manager of the Union Bank in Lyttelton for twenty years, and in Bangiora for three yeara, but had recently retired. Since bis retirement he had received an income of £300 as pension, from the Bank. Some time ago he had gone to England, in expectation of receiving money from his father's estate, but had been disappointed, and the expenses of his trip had left him in debt. A long discussion took place, and several questions were asked, after which the meeting adjourned till two o'clock to enable the assignee to obtain information. Upon resuming, certain proposed arrangements were discussed and agreed to, providing the debtor could make them, and the meeting adjourned, to be called again if the proposals were not carried out to the satisfaction of the creditors.
