SWIMMING.
♦ BECEPTION TO THE CHRISTCHURCH CLUB'S POLO TEAM. The members of the Christchnrcb. Amateur Swimming Club's team, which won the Water Polo Championship of New Zealandat Auckland recently, wereaccorded m enthusiastic reception at the Clarendon Hotel last evening. There waa a representative gathering, and members of the Eaßt Chrietehurch, Richmond, Sydenham, St Albans and Ashburton Clubs were present. Mr G. T. Booth, Vice-President of the Christchurch Club, occupied the chair, and he was supported by Mr A. Francis and the members of the victorious team. Mr G. Harris -wrote, apologising for his absence, and heartily congratulating the team on its brilliant victory. The Chairman proposed the toaßts of "The Queen" and "The New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association and Affiliated Clubs." Messrs J. A. Caygill (Sydenham), W. H. Cheeaman (St Albans), A. Duncan (East Christchurch), G. Milne (Richmond) and Grubb (Ashburton) acknowledged the latter toast, and in doing so referred to the successful, manner in which the Auckland Club had carried out the championship meeting and to the victory of the Christchurch Club's polo team. Mr A. Francis proposed the toast cf "The Victorious Team," and Messrs W. Halliday, D. H. Casbolt, E. W. Marab, C. H. Fox, J. Paterson and E. A. England returned thanks. They spoke in high terms of the hearty aud enthusiastic manner in which the Auckland swimmers had received them, and said great credit was due to the Auckland Club's officials for successfully carrying ont the championship meeting. Mr England gave an account of the team's doings in Auckland. All the members hai thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and Mes3ra E. "VV. .St Clair, Goldwater and Creeth, of the Auckland Club, had been exceedingly kind to bhem. The toaßt of "Kindred Clubß," proposed by Mr F. W. Johnston, waa responded to by Messrs L. A; Cuff (Athletics), W. B. Eyre (Cycling), J. __. Caygill (Cricket), and F. J. Craddock [Football). Mr Francis proposed the health of the Chairman. Some very good •ODgs were sung by Messrs C. Thompson, _.. Duncan, F. TV. Johnston, and G. Milne, md Mr W. B. Eyre contributed three :apital recitations. Cheers were given for he polo team, and the singing of " Auld Jang Syne " brought the proceedings to a lose at ten o'clock.
