New Zealand Brass Bands Association.

The Executive Committee of the United Brass Bands Association of New Zealand held a meeting last evening: in the Garrison Band-room; present — Messrs K. Trist Searall (Chairman), W. F. M'Lean, J. Cusack, D. Jtf'Eillop, J. Hughes, A. Gordon, J. Painter and W. Mansell, Hon Secretary. A large amount of correspondence was dealt with, including letters from the Hons J. G. Ward and W. P. Beeves, the Union Steamship Company, the Railway Department. Messrs Lyons and Healy '(Chicago) and Hyham (Manchester), and from the judge elect (Mr Q. A. Martin), enclosing a protest from the Oamaru Navale Band. Notices of motion were received, including one from the City Band, Invercargill : "That valve trombones be debarred from future contests/' The Hon Secretary was instructed to arrange a meeting and forward notice^ to affiliated BandH. The question of establishing a record of Association contests was discussed, and, on the motion of Mr J. Hughes, it was decided to ask the Contest Committee to allow the Executive tbe privilege of publishing the results of the contest. On the motion of Mr Searell, it was decided to obtain specimens of American test pieces suitable for New Zealand Bande. Oa the motion of Mr M'Lean, a vote of thanks was accorded to. i Mr Martin for his action in connection with the protest received. A letter from, ' Mr T. Herd, bandmaster of the Welling-' ton Garrison Band, regarding the seventh movement in Verdi, was relegated to the local Committee. The Oamaru Naval Artillery Hand's protest was against a bandmaster cf a Canterbury Band having i been commiesioned to "score" the two test pieces. This matter was.ako referred to the Contest Committee. A vote of thanks having been passed to the. Chairman, the meeting adjourned for a fortnight.
