Christchurch.

The nominations for the five vacant seats on the City Council closed at noon to-day, when all the old Councillors were nominated, and two freßh candidates entered the' field. There being no other nominations in their wards, Councillors Appleby, Gape 3 and E. Smith were declared duly elected for the North-weet, Hie North-east and the South-east Wards respectively. For the South-weßt Ward Mr W. W. Collins was nominated against ex-Councillor J. T. Smith; and for the Richmoad Ward Mr T. Bunting was nominated against ex-Councillor J. A. Flesher. The elections for these two Wards will take place on Sept. 14. The polling place for the South-weßt Ward is St Michael's Schoolroom, Durham street, and that for the Richmond Ward, the Foresters' Hall, Yogel street.
