At tbe inqueßt to-day on the body of a man who was killed by becoming en« tangled in tbe belting of the machinery at a sawmill at Carterton on Saturday, the jury added a rider—" That the notice of the Inspector of Machinery should be called to the matter with a view of his being more • particular in guarding the belting <f machinery of any kind." NELSON, Junk 19. James Hart, blacksmith, aged abont 30, left part on Saturday in a decked boat, intending to sail to Moutere. This morning bis boat was found on a sand bank in tbe harbour with some parcels on board, tbe mainsail being close reefed. It is thought that in setting the jib he was washed overboard on Saturday night. A search party went out this afternoon aid found an oar belonging to the boat on the sands two miles' from the harbour. A private telegram received in Christchurch yesterday stated that there was a very high flood in the Buller River, and that the Alexandra Company's dredge was swamped, and sank; two men being drowned. Mr Robert Musto, a man aged seventyseven, died suddenly at hia residence on the New Brighton road, Flemington, yesterday morning. He appeared to be in good health and spirits at balf-past seven, when his daughter gave bim bis breakfast in bed. At nine o'olook he became very ill, and his wife telephoned for Dr Thomas, but before the doctor's arrival Mußto was dead. • . Our Duvaucbelle's Bay correspondent writes :— On Friday afternoon a little boy, seven years of. age, son of Mr Btephen Hunt, of French Farm, waß playing near a mare and foal when he was struck by the foal, and one of hiß legs was broken in two places. Dr Bolger, of Akaroa, was speedily in attendance, and the child is doing as well as can be expeoted.
