-♦ [Fxb Pbkss Association.] TBENTHAM, Jan. 13. At three o'clock this afternoon the Marlborough match, ten shots at 500ydBj counting in the aggregate for the belt, was commenced. Sergeant Parslow, an ex-chanx pion, retired from this match on the ground of illness. A fresh rear wind wat blowing, with variable light. A. Balliugei (Wellington) got on the fine score of 48 He opened with an inner and concluded with one, all his other shots being " bulls/ His brother was close on his heels with 47, and then came Head and Fairs of Auckland, each with 46. At the conclusion of this match, Head headed the aggregates with 172, Mooseman 164, King (Oamaru) 163, Boss and Spinley (Auckland) 162. . The Wanganui match upset many good shots, and misses were quite as frequent as " bulls." There was very little wind, but !the light was very changeable; Head, who 'was leading for the belt, on lying down for this' match, missed twice, while Boss improved his position with 39, secured first prize, and placed himself at the top of the aggregates. Tomorrow morning, the Ladies' Match, four shots at 200 yds, standing, kneeling or sitting, not counting in the belt aggregates, will be fired ; and the .Otago match, 300, 500 and 700 yds, seven shots, counting for the belt, will follow. Jan. 14. The weather is fine but dull, with a breeze still from the nor'- west. Parslow is about again. His retiring yesterday was caused by a severe bilious attack. The Council will decide to-day whether he shall be allowed to fire in the matches from which he retired. Shooting will probably be suspended at five o'clock, in order to allow competitors to go to Wellington until Monday morning. . The Counoil examined the private Martini- Henii trifles to-day respecting the objection taken to rough heel-plates of two and the knife-sights of two others. The objections will be remedied, and the competitors allowed to continue the use of their weapons. Howe (Wellington) and M'Carthy (Auckland), with 85 each, tie for the Carbine Cup, one being the highest scorer in the Ladies' and the other in the Auckland matches. They will fire off. The Petone Rifle Club competes for the gold watch won by the Petone team at the New South Wales Association meeting the day after the meeting closes here. The competition takes place at Petone, and the highest aggregate in the two matches will be the winner. With the 500 yds completed, the leading aggregates are— Robo 257, Humphries 254, Head and Ballinger 252, Mooseman 251 and King 250.
