He also stated that he was owed .£197 for wages, but he could not get the money owing since May last. The Bench said it was clear that accused would not work, and he would have to go to gaol for a month. Fighting. — Ritchie Lambert and Jessie Wood were charged with being common prostitutes, and with behaving in a riotous manner in Cashel street. Constables O'Connor and O'Brien said that the women were fighting near the Temperance Hotel, at half-past six that morning, when they were arrested. Sergeant Briggs gave evidence aB to the character the women bore, and they were each sentenced to one month's imprisonment. Civil Cabes. — Cane v. Joyce, claim JE3 14s. Mr Cohen for plaintiff, who claimed for the balance of architect's fees alleged to be due by defendant in respect to some j alterations done to a fish shop in Colombo street. In evidence plaintiff said that he had three times been paid £1 on account by defendant. Defendant stated that he did not employ plaintiff, who was instructed by a man named Brooks. He admitted lending money to Brooks, who was the proprietor of the shop at the time. He also produced the receipts signed by plaintiff, in which he acknowledged the money paid as a loan, until he received his fees from Brooks. Judgment for defendant.
