CHRISTCHURCH AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB.

Annual Meeting. Tho annual meeting of tlii3 Clnb was held in Sfc Michael V tchoolroom on Wed- j nesday. Abont twenty-five members were present, and Mr A. Francis (Captain) was voted to the chair. The balance-sheet j Bhov/ed the receipts for the year to have been £74* 6s 7d, and the expenditure .£7O 14s Id, leaving a balance in band of £'6 12s 6d. Members expressed themselves highly satisfied with the position of the Club, and adopted the balance-sheet nem con. The following new members were then elected : — Messrs F. Jones, J. Drake, W. Thorhas, A. Tucker, J. Dargeant, D. Alberfield, G. Hepworth, and B. Froggart. The Chairman thought that an annual race for the championship of the Club, to : bo competed for by not lees than three members, should be held during the coming season, the winner to be the recipient of a j handsome trophy. After some discussion, it was decided to recommend the Committee to undertake to arrange the race. The following officers were then elected :—President, Mr C. P. Hulbsrfc ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs Leonard Harper and T. S. Foster ; Captain, Mr A. Francis; Hon Secretary and Treasurer, Mr E. A. England ; Com- , mittee, Messrs G. T. Booth, R. E. M. Evans, H. L. Strattan, and J. Alexander. An opinion was expressed that, &s the monthly matches had been so successful in the past, they should be resumed in the future. It was afterwards carried that long distance races, over 100 yds, Bhould ■ be instituted. The Committee were empowered to act in the matter. A very ' hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Francis for his pasfc services as Captain of the Club. Mr Francis, in reply, thanked , the Committee and members for their assistance, and stated that the bath would be ready for the ueo of members on Oct. 1 . A vote of thanks to the retiring officers brought the meeting fco a closo.
