The Maori Perjury Cases.
— . .+ (Tee 1*11583 Associatiov.J AUCKLAND, Sept 27. The hearing of the famous perjury cases against five Natives, witnesses in the rapa case against Wight, terminated to-day at the Snpreme Court. Mr Dufaur, counsel for the defence, has protested against Mr Justice Ward hearing these cases. Tho latter had ordered the arrest of the prisoners, and to-day, when Hariata, the second of the prisoners,, was brought up, Mr Dufaur intimated that, as all his appeals for a postponement of the trials till' next sessions had been disregarded, he and Mr O'Meagher, the other counsel for the defencQ,.had agreed that.they would not call witnesses or cross-examine the witnesses forthe prosecution, as it was intended to bring the matter before Parliament, and they would retire from, the -Court. His Honor briefly rejoined that their clients would not suffer. The case then proceeded, and Hariata was discharged, to come up for sentence when called upon. Mariata was also discharged on the same terms.
