Cheviot.

Mr Boreham, the candidate for the Cheviot district, addressed a large m;mber of electors at Ashley on Wednesday evening last. Mr John Ell wood, on taking the chair, aaked for a fair hearing for the candidate. At the conclusion of his address, in reply to questions, the candidate said he was not in favour of the Land Acquisition Bill, or the Bible being read in schools ; village settlements would fall through for want of labour when roads and clearings were finished; he had not studied the question of charitable aid, but would do so ; local option would have his support, as would the Women's Franchise Bill. A vote of thanks was unanimously carried to Mr Boreham for his address.
