LONDON, Anacsr 25. Consols remain at 101^ . New Zealand inscribed stock is unchanged at 99f . The Bank of England returns show a total reserve of notes and bullion of .£11,856,000, an increase of .£300,000 daring the week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities has advanced from 41 to 42 per cent. The Bank rate of discount remains at 3 per cent, and the market rate at 2| per cent. There are no changes to report in Colonial breadstuff s or tallow.

The Imperial Institute. m , LONDON, Atjgust 85. The sum of .£20,000 has been forwarded from Canada in aid of the Imperial Institute. The Mail Rates. Germany has lowered the postage on Australian letters forwarded by the German- Colonial line of mail steamers to 20 pfennige (about 2|d.) Wool. Three thousand seven hundred bales of Australian wools were sold at the Antwerp salea on Wednesday, and averaged the price of the last London auction. The sales display more animation. Madagascar. Prance has been compelled to abandon her claim to approve of the appointment of Foreign Consuls in Madagascar.
