THE SCOTT- COTTON WALKING MATCH.

DAJNEDIN, Augttst 20. The 24-hours fwalHng match between Captain Cottony of Chrißtohurch, and Joe Scott, which wra to have started to-night, collapsed. A large number of persona were present at the hour of starting, when Scott's trainer made an announcement that Captain Cotton's trainer had informed him •that if Captain Cotton was not allowed to 'win he would bo ill when the time for starting arrived . A doctor's certificate waa readjto those present. It Bt&ted that Captein Cotton was suffering from severe indisposition, and it would be injudicious foi him to attempt to walk any distance. Scott walked for an hour, and those pre6ent*left grumbling. The doctor's certificate ib genuine enough, but the offer of the trainer seems inexplicable.
