A LIFE INSURANCE INCIDENT.

[Per Press Association.]

HAWEEA, August 27. David Ironside, who was killed on the railway on Thursday, had just completed arrangements for insuring his life. He had been accepted by the Government agent as a first-class life, but he wished to put it off for a month or two, and, strangely enough, one of the arguments used to convince him of the wisdom 'of insuring at once, was that any day he might tumble off the engine. There was some informality in the necessary papers, owing to a miscalculation by the Department, which was to have teen rectified on Wednesday ; but though it is doubtful whether the transaction was actually completed, the Government have decided to pay the amount of the policy, JE22O, less the first payment, which was to have been made in September.
