AN IRISH INCIDENT.
' A Priest Committed for Contempt. The Affair in the House. LONDON, March 18. Father Keller, parish priest at ! Youghal, Cork, Ireland, has been arrested for refusing to appear at Dublin as a witness in a case against a de- . faulting tenant. March 20. j Father Keller, parish priest ai Youghal, who was arrested for refusing to appear as a witness in the case of a defaulting tenant, was yesterday brought to Dublin. At all the towns and villages en route, he received an ovation from the populace. On being brought before the Court in Dublin, he refused to answer questions, and was committed to prison for contempt of Court. Large crowds escorted him to prison. In the Houso of Commons last night the Irish members inveighed against the arrest of Father Keller, '• and accused the Government of the wilful exasperation of the Irish people, in order to justify coercion in Ireland. The Right Hon Arthur Balfour, the new Irish Secretary, vehemently repelled the accusation, and declared that the baneful agitation of the "plan of campaign" adopted by the Nationalist party was answerable for the present disorder in Ireland. The cloture rules were finally adopted by a majority of 262 to 41, and will be in operation forthwith.
