Art Society's Exhibition.
THE FINANCIAL RESULTS. The exhibition of the Canterbury Society of Arts, which has just closed, has been, from a financial point of view, the most successful yet held by the Society. The total receipts have been about £600. Eighty pictures have been sold, realising J6465, about J6120 more than last year. The receipts from en -ranee money, however, show a slight falling off, being -6134 12a this year, as against .£153 4_ in 1886. This is attributable to the fact that there has been a large increase in the membership of the Society, and, consequently, in the number of persona admitted on members' tickets. The Society, unlike those in other towns, permits these tickets to be used for the admission of all the members of the holders' families. It is stated, too, that instances have occurred of tho tickets in question being used to obtain admission for persons who were not related to members. Altogether, it is evident that the number of tho&e who did not pay at the doors must have been considerable.
