INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.

The Industrial Association held an ordinary meeting last night, when there was a moderate attendance. The President, Mr F. Jenkins, occupied the chair. The Hon Colonel Brett and Messrs James Tait and K. Sando were elected members, and Messrs T. I. Joynt and James Mercer were nominated. After considerable discussion, the President's action in presenting a souvenir to His Excellency, on the Governor's recent visit, was approved. The President stated that he and Mr Pavitt had, by arrangement with the Secretary of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association, gone on Saturday to interview Mr Boag, but that gentleman had not attended at the time appointed. They had, therefore, no report to make en the subject of the proposed wool and grain show, towards the expenses of which the Industrial Association had been requested to contribute .£IOO Mr Banks called H+.renti'">n to the n.*>noiin'.'ement in the Star th-vt th*- show o«bi*s in the Colinderies had cost £750, ttiough the work could have been dons here for £500, which amount would cover cost of timber. The President said he had seen it stated in a Sydney paper that the New Zealand cases had cost £1200. A number of accounts were passed for payment. It was resolved to discontinue keeping the rooms open on Saturday evenings after Saturday next. After transacting other business of an executive character, the meeting closed.

At present the British army in Ireland numbers nearly 24,000 officers and men, of whom about 3300 are cavalry, 2400 artillery, and 17,000 infantry.
