Letters to the Editor.

THE FIEE AT WALTHAM. Mr J. R. Andrew writes: — "Eindly allow me space in your paper to offer an explanation, and to correct a mistake which your reporter inadvertently made with respect to myself. The rag found was one which my son used when selling ikerosene in bottles to customers. Having | wiped the bottle, he threw the rag at the bottom of the cupboard. At other times he wiped the harness with it, and when, done threw it where it would be most out of the way. On this occasion it was not near the fire. The kerosene kept for sale . waß, on the night of the fire, in the stable, ' away from the shop altogether. The . statement that ' when Mr Andrew left the premises at half-past 7 o'clock, there was no sign of fire about the place,' is a mistake. As a matter of fact, I was not on the premises that evening before the fire occurred, nor had I been there for at least a week before."
