THE S.S. WANAKA.
No News of the Vessel. Some uneasineßS is naturally being felt with regard to the safety of the TJnion Steamship Company's s.s. Wanaka. As wa3 reported yesterday, she left Dunedin at 3 o'clock on Monday afternoon, for Lyttelton, and at one o'clock to-day no tidings of her had been received at the Union Company's Office here. From the look-out station at the Heads, the weather was reported to be still thick ; and from our Weather Report it will be observed that at Oamaruit was foggy, whilst at Dunedia rain was Btill falling. Oar Lyttelton correspondent writes :— There was no sign of the s.s. Wanaka, about seventy hours out from Dunedin, when our express left Lyttelton to-day at 12.30. The probability is that the weather having been very thick yesterday and during this morning, she has hauled well off the land. The Wanaka is a splendid little sea-boat, and should turn up this afternoon all right. The s,s. Waihora, which left Port •Chalmers at seven o'clock this moroing, j put back there, owing to the heavy eea Bhe -encountered. There is still a big swell 1 •running into Ly Ifcelton harbour. The Wanaka, 297 tons, is commanded by : Captain Meades. According to the Dune- j -din journals she had on board a saloon : passenger for Wellington, Mr Roberta, and three steerage.
