♦_ A special meeting of the City Council will be held next Monday at (3 50 p.m. A special auction sale of cloths, remnant?, &c, will be held by Mr H. J. Boss, on Saturday, at 1 o'clock. Mr J. B. Stansell's record of the rainfall during the twenty-four hours ending at 9 o'clock this morning, was 091 inch. The argument in Doubleday v. Bray and another was continued to-day in the Supreme Couit, before His Honor Mr Justice Johnston, sitting in Banco. The task of repairing the barque Dragon, now in dock at Lyttelton, has been, entrusted to Messrs Scott Bros. An examination of the vessel's bottom shows that one of her plates has been bent. It is suggested that the injury may have been, caused while she was lying at Timaru, by her striking against the fender-piles of the wharf, in the same manner as the Watatipu. is supposed to have done.
