The entertainment hy the Chriatchurch Working Men's Club Dramatic Class, which had been unavoidably postponed, will be given this evening. The first lecture to the Ladies' Class formed under the auspices of the Christchurch centre of the St John Ambulance Association, was given by Dr Irving in the Provincial Council Chamber yesterday, aad was attended by forty-four ladies. The licenses to take and kill hares Issued this season by the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, number 116, considerably more than were issued last year. Only two licenses to sell hares have been taken out, both by vendors of game in Chriatchurch. At the last meeting of the members of the E Battery, N.Z. Artillery, letters were received from Drs Hacon and M'lntyre, highly eulogising Corporal Gardiner, of the Battery, for the very satisfactory manner in which he performed the duties of Chief Ambulance Orderly at the recent encampment at Oamaru. The annual meeting of parishioners of Sfc Saviour's, "West Lyttelton, waß held last evening. The receipts were reported to have been £137 8s 2d, and there was a balance in hand of £34 3s Bd. The building fund account showed a balance required of £114. Owing to the small attendance, the meeting was adjourned until next Wednesday evening, at 7.30. The opening of the Colonial and Indian Exhibition (to be popularly known as " The Colonies 1 ') was reported by a lengthy cable message in our Fourth Edition of yesterday. On the fourth page of this issue will be found a verbatim report of the address of the Execntive President, the Prince of Wales, and the reply of Her Majesty the Queen. The ode composed for the occasion by the Laureate is also published. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Committee of the St Albans Mutual Improvement Association and Public Library was held on Monday evening, at 8 p.m. ; present— Mr B. W. White, vice-President, in the chair, Messrs Holmore, Birt, Brewer, Blackmore, Curtis, Hathaway, Penteney, and C. S. White. Accounts, amounting to £11 15s lOd, were passed for payment. The Secretary reported that liberal donations towards the Library enlargement fund had been received from lie Trustees, Messrs Q. Gould and C. K. Blakiston; and a hearty vote of thanks to them was passed unanimously. A BubCommittee was appointed to select books to the value of £5, an order for which was kindly presented by Mr G. Gould. The Committee appointed to superintend the alterations in the internal arrangements of the Library, reported that the work had been performed to their entire satisfaction. and after transacting the usual routine business the'meeting adjourned. A stone-quarrier in Pennsylvania has just had the occipital bone cut out of his skull, but, fortunately, haa experienced *« little inconvenience." Albans Branch of the Railway League form j ' itself into a procession at St Albans and ; march down to Christchurch, and co- j operate with the Central Committee in the j procession to a destined place at a day and j time to be named ; and further, to use its \ endeavours to obtain as many Societies as possible in the Borough to co-operate with . them." The Secretary was instructed to write to the various local bodies and Societies in : the Borough, asking them to co-operate ; and assist in making the procession a i , success. ; It was resolved to invite the Mayor and < Borough Councillors to join as a body in J the procession. j • It was decided that all members of the j ; League should wear the medallions. i Resolved — "That his Worship the !
