» . The steam launch Canterbury is advertised to run excursions to Governor's Bay to-morrow (Christmas Day) and on Boxing Day. The time of closing entries for the Lyttelton Land Sports, to be held on New Tear's Day, has been extended to Dec. 30, at noon. The Hororata Copper Company are preparing to start work on their ground at South Malvern. They have called for tenders for putting in a drive of 150 ft, and the work will soon be commenced. In connection with the arrest of William Sheehan, at Auckland, on the charge of having murdered three relatives at Castlei town Koche, Ireland, the very interesting f statement made by Superintendent Thomson at the Auckland Police-court yesterday ■ is reported verbatim in this issue. For the horse events in the Sefton Annual Sports up to last night 27 entries were received, divided as follows : — Ten for the Hurdles ; eight for No. 1 Flat Hack race ; nine for No. 2 Flat Hack race. Judging from the entries, good fields should be obtainable ; and the course being nicely laid out, the meeting promises to be most successful. r The meeting of the Loyal Kaiapoi Lodge, No. 4828, L0.0.F.,M.U., was held last evening. The following officers were elected for the ensuing term : — W. Moody, N.G. ; P. Goldthorpe, V.G. ; J. Kerr, E.S. ; F. Sherratt, P.S. Dr Ovenden, Surgeon, re- ! elected. Messrs J. Butt, A. J. Clark, L. Edmonds, H. Keetly, P. Goldthorpe were appointed a Hall Committee, Mr H. Finnis was re-elected hall-keeper. The Provincial Grand Master Bro Leahy paid an official visit to the Lodge. The receipts for the night were reported at JEsl lOa 3d. The Kaiapoi Regatta Committee met at the Council Chamber last evening, for the purpose of arranging the programme ; but, owing to counter-attractions, this was delayed. It was resolved to hold the regatta upon Wednesday, Jan. 14, in place of Jan. 30, as previously arranged; and it was agreed to specially advertise the change. Mr James Butt was added to the Committee. Special canvassers were appointed, and the meeting adjourned to Monday, Dec. 29, at eight o'clock, when subscriptions will be received and the programme arranged. At the usual fortnightly meeting of the St Albans and Stanmore Political Association there was not quite so numerous an attendance as of late, probably owing to the nearness of the Christmas holidays. After transacting routine business, matters in connection with the late fire in St Albans were considered. It was resolved
