Some little disappointment was experienced here when it became known that the survey for preparing plans and specifications for the first section will take a considerable time, and that tendera are not likely to be called for till the autumn. There is a good deal of actual work to be * done in the sounding of swampß, &c, and Mr Rochfort will shortly be assisted by Messrs Hursthouse and Holmes. Last night at the City Council, the subject of the Costley bequest to the Public : Library and its management was brought ♦op. Some rather curious revelations were made as to the position and appointment of rrustees, and the whole subject waa re- : -erred to a Committee to report to ; Council. !

WANGANUI, Nov. 28. ( Sister Cecilia, in the Convent here, died this morning. She had been ailing for two : days only. She has been here about two months, and came originally from Greymouth, where her parents reside.
