NEW ZEALAND BAPTIST UNION.

The annual Conference began on Tuesday morning in the Baptist Church schoolroom, Oxford Terrace. The business was prefaced by a prayer meeting, under the presidency of the Rev T. Bray, from 10 to 11. The Rev A. North, of Dunedin, took tlie chair, and the Rev J. Standring, of Lincoln road, was appointed secretary pro tern. The Revs J. G. Wilson, Cambridge, W. E. Rice, Auckland, W. R. Woolley, Thames, L. J. Shackleford, Wanganui, C. C. Brown, Lincoln, and J. Angus, Oamaru, were received as Ministerial members of the Union. Thirty-one delegates answered to their names, representing fifteen churches. After the reading of last year's minutes, the annual report was read. The statistics ef the churches were as follow : — Increase by baptism, 357 ; by other means, 13G ; gross total, 493. Decrease, 241 ; net increase, 252. Sunday school teachers, 387; scholars, 3848, being an increase of 65 teachers and 1074 scholars. The local preachers number 44. Total number of Church members, 2370. A deputation from the Christchurch Ministers' Association, consisting of the Revs Morley, Hoatson, and Erwin, visited the Union at 3 o'clock. Their words of kindly greeting were responded to by the Eev C. Carter, and Mr Thomas Dick. A paper was read by the Eev J. D. Gihnore on "Evangelistic Work in connection with the Churches." After discussion, a Committee was appointed to enquire how the matter could be practically dealt with. In the evening a public meeting was held at the Oxford terrace Church. There was a good attendance, and Mr T. Dick, of Dunedin, presided. The President delivered an address on the " Denominational Principles of the Baptists." The Eev J. Wilson, of Cambridge (Waikato), spoke on "The Lifegiving Touch of Christ," and the Eev C. C. Brown, of Lincoln, on " Loyal Heartedness to Jesus." Several hymns and anthems were sung, the choir being under the leadership of Mr H. Corrick. This evening there will be a tea meeting in the same church. ,
