Another Outrage at Tamatave.
[Special to Press Association.] [Keooivod Jnly IC, at, 12.80 p.m.] LONDON, July 15. French despatches from Tamatave, dated July 6, are entirely silent as to the reported moults to tho British authorities and the officers of the Dryad. Two night attacks have been made by the Hovas, and have been repulsed with serious Jobs. The balance of the Western Australian loan has been •withdrawn. Mr Ohilders, Chancellor of the Exohequer, replying to a deputation, stated that tho agreement made with Baron de Lesseps for a second Suez Oanal, was the best obtainable. It is considered probable that the Italian Government will consent to the lauding of the mails at Br'ndisi. The New Zealand Shipping Company is increasing its capital by a quarter of a million. The French naval authorities at Tamatave on June 26 boarded Messrs Ourrie's mail steamer Taymouth Oastle, placed sentries in various positions on board, and overhauled the mails. The Oaptain alone was allowed to land at Madagascar, and the cargo and passengers had to bo taken on to Mauritius.
WELLINGTON, July 16. At the Supreme Oaurfc this morning the case of Hunt v. Jir A. Gordon was commenced. It will extend over thres days. The- Dunodia Gaol Commission are sitting at the Mount Cook Prison. The evidence of Prisoner Cummook is being taken ; it is generally unfavourable to the management of tho gaol.
INVJSROARGILL, Jtoy 16. When the Dunedin express had gone a short distance out of town to-day, a man named Oharles Lewis, laid to be of unsound mind, throw himself aorosn the track as the train approached. Every effort was mado to stop the dngine, but Lewis was caught by the cowcatcher and dragged a considerable distance. He was convoyed to tho hoipital, where it was found that ho had received a contused wound on the back of the head, which is not considered dangerous. John Eastwood has been committed for trial fer stealing £45 from a man earned Ji'Neil!, while the latter was drunk.
