The Christchurch Cabmen.
About 5 p.m. yesterday the whole of the cubß on the various stands were observed to movo off in solemn proceision, and parade the streets in lino, the horses going at a slow walk. Passers-by were induced to speculate considerably as to the reason for, this extraordinary manoeuvre : the pace was too slow and mournful for a pionic, and some thought that a funoral was in progress. The explanation is that the cabmen have refused to take out licenses under the now by-law, and as their vehicles aro, therefore, not entitled to the privilege of occupying positions on the cabstands, they were requested to "move-on" by the police, being regarded simply as obstructions to the thoroughfares, The cabmen prooeeded to Oranmer square, where an open-air meeting was held, at which it was decided to take all cabs off the streets k and further consider the quostion that evening. A meeting of tho cabmen was- accordingly hold in the Gaiety Theatre in the evening, whereat it was decided to hold a public meeting to explain the position to-night; It 1 was also agreed not to bring . out the- onbitill thft pfHMrt'diftouUy Utettledy
