At noon to-day the Returning Officer, Mr GL L. Loe, announced, at the City Oounßil Office, that the only candidate proposed for the Mayoral chair was Mr J. Gt. Ruddeuklau, who was therefore elected to tho office of Mayor of Chrisfcchurch for the next year. There -was a small number of personß waiting the announcement, whioh was received by them with loud cheers. Mr J. G-. Ruddenklau briefly thanked those presont, reaerving hia apeech for a few minutes. (Cheora and laughter.) Shortly after theee formal procsedings, a presentation to hia Worship )ho Mayor took place, a report ot which will be found elsewhere
