A LITTLE SLIP.
An actor mado a ludierons blunder in Macduff's great sceno in the fourth act of " Macbeth." He was enacting Roase on the night in question, and one of hia macy parts for that week had been Horatio, which ho had atruggled with tho night before. Students of Shakeapeare will remember that tho following dialogue occurs in " Hamlet " when that young gentleman is questioning Horatio and " the rivals of his watch " as to the appearance of the Ghost : — Hamlet : " Stayed it lon,'> ?" Horutio : " While one, with moderate haste, might tell a hundred." Marcollue and Bernardo : " Longer ! longer!" Horatio : " Not when I saw it!" With theeo remarks fresh on hiß mind he entered aa Rosso, to Crompton as Macduff, and to the latter's utter consternation, instead of replying to his anxious enquiry as to where Scotland stood at that moment, with the beautiful speech commencing, "Alas! poor country, scarce ablo tn know itself," kc, ho completely staggered Crompton by answering in u dazed state, but quite seriously, thus : Macduff : " Stands Scotland whoro it did ?" Rosae : " Not when I saw it !" The finifh of tho scene did not, on this occasion, produco its tearful accompaniment.
