[By Tbibgbaph.] [SPECIAL.-] DUNEDIIT, JtriT 14. The polling for a member of the House of Representatives in the room of Mr E. Stout, resigned, took place to-day. There was nothing like the excitement customary in town on such occasions, and it was only in and around the central polling booth (the old Supremo Court-house) that there were any indications of any unusual occurrence in .the city. The Committees and friends of both candidates worked hard. It is understood that Mr Beeves got tho Catholic block vote, but Mr Stewart received hearty support from his friends, and especially from mombors -of the legal profession, who havo confidence in him, and worked hard for him. The result of the poll was — W. Do wnie Stewart 726 0. S. Reeves sfi3 J.G.S. Grant 51 Majority for Mr Stewart, 163.
