THE LAND AND BAILWAY REVENUES.
[By Telegraph.]
WELLINGTON, April 14.
•» The land revenue up to the end of the Jquartor ending March 31 realised £760,000. [The estimate for the year was £1,229,000, so lthat it is now praotically certain that there j-will be, as has been predicted by the Colonial /Treasurer for some time past, a large deficit fin tho revenue from land. The deficit will, I however, probably be more than covered by I the increase in the receipts from the Cus- [ tome and railways. For the three first quarters of the year fcho railway revenue has been £520,000, of which £211,000 has been paid in during tho past quarter. The fourth and ' last quarter always shows tho largest return, as nearly all the grain is carried during this quarter, and at a moderate estimate, another £250,000 should bo realised before the close of tho financial year, making a total of £720,000. Tho Colonial Treasurer estimates the railway revenue at £710,000, but this amount will certainly be largely exceeded. The working expenses on many lines havo olsobeon largely roducod under prosentadministration, so that tho proportion of proGts to receipts will be considerably larger than in Sast years, and below the estimated expeniture.
