" MACBETH."
At the Theatre Royal on Saturday evening Mr William Creswick appeared as Macbeth, with Mrs George Darrell as Lady Macbeth. The role of the ambitious but acrupulous Thane is one which affords an actor of the first rank just the opportunities he requires for displaying liis best qualities. Undoubtedly Mr Creswick may claim to be an actor of the firat rank, and aa undoubtedly he availed himself to the utmost of his opportunifciea ou Saturday nighfc. The alternations of hesitation and resolution, followed by reckless and finally unscrupuloua murder, wero pictured in fche actor's countenance with telling effect. The whole delineation of the character was evidently the result of careful study and long practice, and was accordingly thoroughly successful. The Lady Macbeth of Mrs Georgo Darrell is too well known to need comraendafcien. Suffice ifc to say it was such an impersonation as is seldom, perhaps never to be seen on tho Colonial stago. Mr Howe gave the text as Duncan very fairly. Mr Elliott as Malcolm looked well, but rendered tho text in his usual jerky style. Air Vincent made a capital Macduff, aa did Mr Burford as Banquo. Miss Navaro sang the music of lieeate very nicely. The witches and singing witches were of more than average merit, the choruses being given very fully. The dresses were very appropriate, and the scenery was good. To-night " Richard the Third" will be played.
