-♦. OHRISTCHURCH. This Dat. (Before C. C. Bowen, Esq., R.M.) Violent Assault. — John M'Crory was charged with having ' violently assaulted his wife Mary M'Crory. Dr Foster appeared for the prosecutrix, who stated that her husband had been before the Court on a previous occasion, when he had agreed to a separation, but they had continued to live together. On the night of Nov. 2, accused had ill-used complainant, driven her out of the house, and she had been compelled to sleep behind a rock on the beach. He had also threatened her, and "thanked God " that he was not bound over to keep the peace towardi her. He was under the influence of liquor at the time. Evidence in support of that given by the prosecufcrix was given by the ferry keeper at Sumaer and his wife. The Bench ordered the accused to bo bound over in two sureties of £50 each to keep the peace towards his wife and all Her Majesty's subjects, or, in default, to be imprisoned for a period of three months. — Wm. Price, on remand on a similar charge, was also ordered to find two sureties of £50 each to keep the peace towards his wife for a space of three months. Tbansfeb of License. — A transfer of the license of the Royal Hotel, Christchurch, from Margaret Mackay to William Kirkwood was granted. •
