LYTTELTON.

This Dat. (Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.) : Lunacy.— -William George Woolfe, painter, residing in Lyttelton, was charged with being ot urißound mind. Constable Quin said that, at 7 o'clock on Saturday night the accused was brought in a cart from Sumner by Mr Newton, who stated he found him up to his waist in water; he got him out and took him to his house, but he would not stay, and went away into the flax bushes; he was followed, and then became very violent,,arid'he had to be tied. He was brought into' Port as he was considered to be dangerous. He was confined in the station honse on Sunday night; he was very violent, and they had to put-' a straitjacket on him. By tbe Court: He said there we're devils about wanting to kill him. On Friday last he was informed that Woolfe had walked round to Rhodes' Bay, a distance of 20 miles, and got into the sea— Mr Deans however, got him out. Mr Bouse and Mr Mottlejr gave evidence that the accused was of unsound mind, and that he was unfit to be at large. The accused was sent to the Sunnyside Lunatic Asylum.
