The fact was, letting her be at liberty was had for liersef and a nuisance to the public, which he would not permit any longer. Prisoner: " Oh, if you won't believe me, give me 12m->nt'iß; I don't care." His Worship said he would at all events, commit her fo' six months to hard labour. Prisoner: 'Thankyou, your Worship." Jane who had also been eiyht times before the bench for similar offences, was charged with having b en drunk and disorderly in the vicinity of the theatre last night. The offence was proved, and prisoner made a rambling sta'ement in extenuation, promising also, if set at liberty, not to offend again. His Worship! would not accept this, and committed her to one month's imprisonment at hard labour.

Wife-beating. — Edward McCourt was summoned for having violently beaten and ill-used his wife, but failing to appear when called upon, a warrant was ordered to be issued for his arrest.
