This Day. (Before C. C. Bowen, Esq., R.M.) Breach of the Peace. — H. Pryke wa« charged with having committed a breach of the pei-ee in a public thorougbfMre. The informing constable said he saw accused strike a woman in Colombo street, yesterday afternoon, without having received any provocation. Accused admitted the off nee, but pleaded in extenuation that he had had a little drink, but was not intoxicate). He was transacting business in the city, and his wife left him without saying wbere she was going to. ( »n S'-eing her in the street shortly afterwards, he was excited, and struck her without thinking of the matter. He was sorry directly he had done so. and it was the the first time he had been before a Magistrate. His Worship, in consideration of this, qnly inflicted the nominal penalty of ss. < Refreshment Booth at the Agricultural £>how. — M. H. dram, of the Golden Fleece Hotel, was granted a license for selling liquors at the Agricultural Show, but to olose tjt 6 p m., his Worship remarking that he had refused one application to keep open till 7 o'clock.
