I [BT SUBMAItrKE ___._Qli._PH.] | WellingtO-T, Nov. 3, 7.22 p.m. Mr Richmond has returned from the East Coast. The 114 recruits from Auckland, i uuder the command of Major St John, were inspected by Colonel Haul tain on landing this morning. The/ appear to be promising fellows. On Sunday morning news arrived at Wanganui that Titokawaru had reached within seven miles of Weraroa redoubt. The Wanganui cavalry rode off immediately to reinforce Weraroa, and the first class militia marched to Kai Iwi the same evening. The house of a settler named Drury, on the north bank of the Waitotara, was attacked on Saturday night. The inmates had a narrow escape. Titokowaru's force is in three divisions. Immediately thia alarming news reached Wellington, the steamer Wanganui was directed to get under weigh for the conveyance of the Auckland recruits with all speed.
