— •> — Tbe Otago arrived at the Bluff on Thursday with Melbourne news to Oct. 9. Melboubne, Oct. 8. Flour is quoted at £13 10s, market dull. Wheat, 6s per bushel ; oats, 4s ; a decided fall. Maize has receded to 3s 8d ; malt has shown a slight advance to lis 3d. In teas a fair business is doing at advanced rates. Tn sugarß advanced rates are maintained. The cargo of the Eva Joshua has been quitted at auction. Three cargoes of brandy have arrived from France, and quotations fluctuate at about 7s 3d. The Great Britain has sailed with. 1 300 passengers. The new glass manufactory is in full operation. The appointment of a Government pathologist is postponed. Mr Bear has been elected for the South, and Mr Jenner for the Southwest, Province. Hop-growing is progressing at Heidelberg. Oct. 9. Joske Bros, have called a meeting of their creditors. The produce market is without change. Malt is firm at lis Gd; kerosene ia ls B_,d; Adelaide flour £12, firm. Sydney, Oct. 8. The Hart Ministry have resigned, and Mr Hay has been sent for. Captain C. D. Boberts, of the schooner S. D. Bailey, has been apprehended on a charge of forgery. He was admitted to bail. The case has been remanded to allow witnesses to arrive from Nelson. Bust haa appeared on the wheat crop on the Darling Downs. Dr Carr. the mesmerist, has been committed for trial on a charge of indecent assault. A small vessel has been seen bottom upwards near the Port of Newcastle. Sperm whales have been seen off ehe Heads. Mr Feez, a merchant at Rockhampton, has called a meeting of his creditors. The finest Souchong tea has been sold at 4s per lb. Quotations for breadstuff's are nominal. Adelaide, Oct. 8. The Ministry were defeated on Mr Hay's motion regarding the land policy. The Surveyor-General is leaving for the North for three weeks. Good news has been received from the Barossa gold diggings. The red rust has appeared on the oat crop. Geneva is dull at usual rates. Candles are 10f-d ; heavy shipments expected. Bacon and hams unchanged, dull. Cheese is quoted at ls and butter at lOd. Trade generally is depressed. The 4th of the month passed off unsatisfactorily. Flour is at £12, cornsacks, 12s 6d ; markets firm and trade good.
