This Day. (Before C. C. Bowen, Esq., U.M.) Attempted Suicide —Eliza Oliver was brought up in custody, charged with this offence. Constable J< ffrey said he had found prisoner roaming ah ut the streets, and as she had evidently been drinking greatly he took her into custody. On arriving at the lock-up he noticed that she h.d a wound on her throat, and another on her hand. William Puddy said prisoner had been lodging

with him, and for some time had been drinking to excess. On one occasion, when he refused to supply her with liquor, she attempted to cut her throat, and in doing so. alao wounded her hand. Bis Worship remanded her for medical examin-ition. Horse Stealing. — Leeson Powell, on remind, was brought up for payment of the fine imposed upon him for this offence. His Worship said he had received a cheque for £20 from the Rev J. W. stack, together with a memorandum ot a lease for prisoner to sign. He could not, however, be party to such a transaction, as he could not say whether it was a fair one. Prisoner and his friends would be the best judges of that, and if he would promise to report himself to the Bench on Thurs lay morning he might go and make such arrangements for paying the fine as he thought best. Prisoner promised to return as stipulated, and wa3 accordingly set at liberty. I
