CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. (Before C. C. Bowen, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness — Emma Craigie, against whom there were fourteen previous convic tions, was brought up charged with being drunk and disorderly yesterday. Constable Jeff.ey proved that prisoner was turned out of the Criterion Hotel, about eleven o'clock, for creating a disturbance, which she continued in the street. Prisoner denied being drunk, but his Worship said he had no doubt about the matter, and having long ago discontinued fining her, she would be committed to two months' imprisonment at hard labour. Marianne Cole for a similar offence was fined 20s. Breaches of the Destitute Persons Act. — J. S. Burns was brought up in the custody of Sergeant Horniman of the Ashburton police, charged with having deserted his wife and family. The warrant having been issued by the Otago police, he was remanded to Dunedin. John Shepherd, on remand from Timaru, was charged with the same offence. Complainant proved that prisoner had left herself and four chil Iren in August last, without nny notice or means of support. Prisoner denied the offence, and stated tliat he had witnesses to call, but had not had time to procure them. His Worship

granted a remand until Monday, at eleßß o'clock, to enable bim to do so.; SB
