ACCLIMATIZATION SOCIETY.
An ordinary meeting of tho Council of this Society was held in tho upper room of tho Literary Institute yesterday afternoon. Mr 0, 0. Bowen occupied tho chair, and th« other memborg present wero Dr Haan, tho Hey C. Kroaer, It. W. Fcrcday, L. L. Powell, (Hon. Sec.) J. C. Boys, \V. 11. \V. Williams, P. Haninor, W. D. Carruthcrs, 11. 1). Johnstone, J. T. I'cacock, T. Nottldgc, <\nd W, WiUon. Mr Johnson, tho Curator, waa also in attendance. Tho minutes of last meeting were road and confirmed. Or Haast called attention to no fixed earn having been specified for expenditure In procuring the salmon ova from Tasmania, fie thought tho Council should not undertake unlimited liability in such matters, but apportion a certain sum in every ense involving oxpenditure, Tho Council approved of this, and resolved that suclt should in future bo done. A letter was read from Mr 0. Gould, declining to accept tho office of treasurer to tho Society, but expressing his willingness to contribute towards its auccc-3 in any other manner. On tho motion of tho Rev. C. Frusar, Mr Ciirrutlicrs was appointed to tho office pro tern. A voto of thanks was awarded to Mr Gould for his services during tho paat year, Tho Chairman suggested that the balance sheet referred to tho then treasurer at last meeting, should, in order to savo time, bo given to Mr Carruthcrs, with a request to put it in proper order. It was resolved that Mr Carruthers should communicate with Mr Oould for the purpose, X,ln reference to tho sub-commltteo appointed to provide shelter for tho deer in the Govern* incut domain, Mr Boy* said nothing had been done, as it was considered that the Council must have overlooked the fact of such a proceeding being uncourteous to the Domain Board, unless thoy were first consulted in the matter. * It wast resolved that tho secretary should communicate with the Board ou the subject. This Rftvo rise to a question as to the posi« tion of tho society with respect to tho tenure of such portions of the domain, as are now occupied by them, and, after some discussion, v committee was appointed to obtain the necessary information from the Government. The Ohairman suggested that it would also bo advisablo to nsk, whether an amalgamation could not 1)0 effected. It would at least be I worthy of consideration, whether the members of tlie Domain Hoard should not be admitted to the council of tho society. Mr Doya said, as a temporary measure, and ponding a reply from tho Domain Board, the committee would recommend that a quantity of gorsc should be provided for the de«r. They had Instructed the Curator to take step* for obtaining the necessary quantity at onco. Tho council approved of the proceeding. Mr Nottidge, on behalf of the sub-commit' too appointed to prepare tho new rulss, brought up a draft copy, and said that In framing them, the committee had been guided by thoso in uao by the "Victorian Society.
