BASKETBALL SHIELD DONATED

At a recentmeeting of the Pukehina Maori School Committee. it was decided to inaugurate an annual primary schools basketball tournament, tire nine schools eligible to participate in the competition being ■ the Mat at a Maori. Matata Convent. Te Matai Maori. To Teko. Pukehina Maori, Whangamurino. Poroporo Maori, Paroa Maori and l’.ondti.

The te ams will compete-: tor a handsome Memorial Shield which has.been donated by the relatives "of the late Ngareta, ITenere, who at. the time Ot her death.; was. a pupil of the Pukehina Maori School. The first tournament will be conducted at Pukehina on Saturday. August 5. and at is understood that all schools, except Te Puke, will take part in the play which is expected to last about live hours. Future events will be held on the courts of the holders ml the Shield.
