NATIONAL UNITY
DEFENCE OF DOMINION An appeal for a spirit of national unity, above party politics and class distinctions was made by Mr I). V. Bryant, of Hamilton, in an :-du'res;delivered in the Methodist Hall on Wednesday night. Mr Bryant said the under developed and underpopulated condition of New Zealand must expose it to grave danger from the nations of Europe and the East, and he emphasised the need for raising the Maori and European birth-rate as an essential step in ensuring the defence of the Dominion. Mr Br yant urged the establishment of a national unity organisation. The time had come, he added, for workingmen to realise that they shbuld do a fair day’s work for a fair day’s pay and for the wealthy men to realise that money was of little value when compared with preserving the principles, of democracy*.
