An experienced and habitual road driver from Auckland states that in all his journeying he has never seen so many heads under bonnets and fee„ sticking out from under cars as during last week-end. This, apart from actualHoasualties. The fog in parts of the Waikato, specially near the river at the Arapuni turn-off, was so bad that some cars just hove to at the roadside for the night. Ho expresses the opinion that holidays let loose upon the road numbers of people absolutely without mechanical knowledge, with no road experience, who are quite unconcious of the dangerous character of the machine that they attempt to control. The dust is another factor super-added to the danger of ignoranoe. A number of the skilled local service car drivers, where Conditions are bad, simply pull aside and stop until safety is assured.
