EPSOM BOWLING CLUB.

Notwithstanding ;the counter-at-traction of the Ellerslie races, the Epsomites rolled up very strong on Saturday, some 70 members taking part in the ordinary draw. The ladies Croquet Club also had a large attendance. Up to the present there has been very little serious bowling indulged in, but from now on the committee and selectors will have a busy time in looking after the numerous club games in addition to the Lambert Cup, and inter-club matches, and with anything like good weather prevailing, members should be able to get all the bowling they require for one season. The cards returned on Saturday were of little use to the selectors in their task of picking teams, many of the games being of the one-sided order. Several of the players being

very much off, and lending very little assistance to the skips, with the result that the selectors have to.use great discretion in their choice of players for the outside matches, and very often have to ifall back on members who can generally be relied upon when up against "hot stuff." The Lambert Cup contest opens on Saturday, in which Epsom are pitted against Carlton, and as the selectors have already made their choice, it is up to the players selected to give a good account of themselves, otherwise they will find they must make room for others; and there are many .aspirants for Lambert .'Cup honours, and as the season progresses no doubt some of the "originals" will be found in the ranks of the ordinary draw. The game for the Brown Stars between the two George's—Watkins and Anderson —was a ding-dong, go right to the finish. Watkins having the advantage of a few points to the 12th head, when Anderson asserted himself and gradually forged ahead, eventually winning a really good game on the last head. The following teams have been selected for the Lambert Cup:—At Carlton: Pollard, Clark, Wallace, J. Wright; Jansen, Phillips, Clay, Grattan; Bruce, Hayes, Stuart, Foubister; Beresford, McCullough, Francis, Watkins. At Epsom:— McLean, S. Harrison, Eraser, Anderson; Richmond, A. Wright, de Launay, Tanner; E. F. Jones, Mynott, W. Smith, A. Jones; Taylor, McGowan, W. Salisbury, Wells. © ® ®
