BAD MARKS.
"When in doubt, mark it up!" I fancy I can hear him saying, and find myself wondering how soon in these topsy-turvy days I shall find our .excellent shopkeepers advertising special sales with "all goods well marked up."—"The Express." Though the public loudly jeer— Mark it up; That's the way to profiteer— Mark it up; Just a ticket and the gum, And the figures altered—some, Then your business will hum; Mark it up! Though it cause the buyer grief— Mark it up! Though you act the dirty thief— Mark it up! Of your conscience take no heed, But devote yourself to greed, And with hasty break-neck speed Mark it up! You'll peg out, of course, one day— Mark that up! Leaving wealth behind you, eh? Mark it up! And upon your tomb, ah me! Not the usual .R.1.P., But the legend we shall see: "Mark it up!"
