New Zealand Association.

The combined annual meetings of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association for the years 1918 and 1919 were, held recently, when the 32nd annual report and balance-sheet were presented. The following delegates were present: Auckland, Barry Keesing; Canterbury, H. Instone; Hawke's Bay, F. F. Grady and R. N. K. Swanston; Marlborough, S. W. Parker; Otago, D. F. Bauchop and A. L. Berry; Southland, G. F. Smythe; Wanganui, W. J. Melody; Wellington, A. G. Henderson, D. Murray Kean, 0. G. Turner, T. Ward, and G. F. Wilson. In the unavoidable absence of the president (Mr. H. M. Gore), Mr. A. G. Henderson was appointed chairman. In the annual report the Management Committee stated that the activities of the Association were prac-

tically at a standstill last year on account of the war, coupled with the epidemic, and the annual, meeting, which should have been held in October of that year, therefore 1- jsed. The New Zealand lawn tnnis championship meeting, to be held at Wellington on the College grounds during the coming Christmas holidays, and commencing on I\>xing Day, would be the first to foiJcw the cessation of war and, in view of the number of young players <vl»o had so improved their game as to be encouraged to participate in the meeting, every effort had been made by the committee to make the event worthy of the occasion, nnd enjoyable to all interested in the game. Affiliated associations were asked to do their utmost in encouraging players to visit Wellington and try conclusions for championship hoiutrs. "Whilst (states the report) tr ere are only a. few who can win, the experience gained by those who compete is invaluable, and «fiords the best opportunity of improving the individuals play through meeting players of varying methods and skill not always met in the course of club or association tournaments." * * . * Election of Officers. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, His Excellency the Governor-General, Lord Liverpool, subject to his consent ; president, H. M. Gore, Wellington ; vice-presidients, Auckland, F. J. Ohlson; Canterbury, G. L. Berry; Hawke's Bay, George Ebbett; Marlborough, L. Griffith; Otago, A. *E. Harrawav; Southland, R. O. Tennent; Taranaki, Dr. H. B. Leatham; Wangaimi, G. H. Pownall; West Coast, Dr. Teickleman. Vioo-president of Lawn Tennis Association of Australasia, H. M. Gore; delegate to the Lawn Tennis Association, A. E. Beamish (London) ; delegates to the Lawn Tennis Association of Aiistralasia, V. H.Baxter, H. S. Fox, Ross Gore, and C. T. Metcalfe; committee of management, H. M. Gore, M. E. Denniston, A. C. Henderson, D. Murray Kean, M. F. Instone, R. N. K. Swanston, and W. Melody; New Zealand Appeal Council, H. M. Gore, M. E. Denniston, A. G. Henderson, E. Y. Redward, and 11. N. K. Swanston (to hold office until annual meeting, 1920); representatives on Olympic Council, H. M. Gore and B. Keesing; hon. auditor, C. E. Easton; secretary and treasurer, Arthur Petherick. The following resolutions, passed by the Lawn Tennis Association (London) and the Lawn Tennis Association of Australasia, were adopted :— (1) That Australasian players be prohibited from taking part in any tournaments or competitions organised by our enemies, and held on enemy territory. (2) That all enemy players be prohibited from entering at any tournaments or competitions sanctioned by the Association. (3) That for the purposes of lawn tennis the new Czecho-Slovak nation be regarded as. allies. (4) That all Australasian players be prohibited from taking part in any tournaments or competitions organised in any neutral country unless the. Lawn Tennis Association or corresponding organisation of such coiintry shall have prohibited the acceptance of entries for the same Iby subjects of enemy nations. Prospectus and programmes of all tournamentii and competitions organised by affiliated associations and affiliated clubs must contain a condition to the effect that under no circumstances will entries be accepted from players of enemy nationality, and adequate steps must be taken by all concerned to render this prohibition effective. The action taken by the management committee in deciding that upon the replies, received from affiliated associations the "Ayres" ball be used at the New Zealand championship meeting during Christmas and New Year next, was approved.

Junior Tennis. ''The following recommendations from the management committee in regard to junior tennis were adopted:— (a) That at the 1919 New Zealand championship meeting provision be made in the programme for holding junior championships for boys and girls tinder the age of 18 years, entries to be restricted to students attending any recognised school or college. (.b) That as an alternative, if such is necessary, such junior championships be suchmembers not necessarily boiiip: also open to members of affiliated clubs, students attending any recognised school or Icollege, the same age limit (18 years) to apply. ® ® SS> The question of where to procure a racquet is a burning question with many players. Attention is drawn to the advertisement of Mr. It. Yates in another column, for this veteran of Auckland sport is now supplying the best of racquet at £3 each.
