Late Racing.

With the Auckland and Avondale autumn meetings at an end, the racing season is drawing to a close, as far .as Auckland is concerned.

Things at headquarters are on the quiet side... Most of the horses have been eased j up, and the two-year-olds have gone into winter quarters.

Last week some schooling work took place, with a view to the coming winter fixtures. El Gallo and Ulster were sent over the sod wall, double fences and stone wall twice, the latter hitting the double hard.

On Saturday Paul Moore jumped a round of the schooling hurdles in good style alone.

Sylvan Knight (C. Scott), Penniless (Reed), and Glutinus (Hawkins) went round the schooling course. Penniless came down at the last hurdle, Reed being unhurt.

Bloomine &nd another tackled the timber, the latter coming down at the first hurdle, but jumping well afterwards.

Brown Lock, which has recently been added to P. Jones' team, was sent over the little sticks, and acquitted himsqlf to the satisfaction of those present.

Mr W. J. Ralph and party were present to see the schooling work of Penniless and Co. take place on Saturday morning.

A. Brown has put Taka Taka and Elysian Rose into work again. Both liave benefitted by the spell. The former has been out spelling since January.

Mr A. W. Beveridge has presented the two-year-old Princess Bee to the Y.W.C.A. The wounded soldiers' fund recently benefitted to the extent of 50 guineas from the sale of the Princess.

The hurdler Prince Eddie is back on the tracks again at Ellerslie under the care of the veteran E. J. Rae, to be prepared for the jumping season.

The Seaton Delaval gelding Ruatangata, the steeplechase horse, is in work ag]ain at headquarters.

The Thames-owned Glutanus has joined D. Moraghan's team at Ellerslie, and is to be put through a course of schooling, probably coached by Hawkins.

The useful gelding Keystone has joined P. Jones' string, and may be one of the jumping brigade at the winter fixtures. The gelding has shown fair form on the flat, and may make a useful lepper.

Two of J. Chisholm's team, Tora Tora and. Cokeley have been nominated at the Hawera autumn meeting.

The Auckland Trotting Club's opening day on Saturday was a huge success, good fields, good racing, and a record tote turnover.

Mr F. J. Macmanemin was in charge of the levers., and gave some splendid send-offs, sending eightynine horses out of the "cards."

W. A. Scott seems to have a mortgage on the opening events at Alexandra Park, and, as per usual, secured this event with Miss George from sixteen others.

Pitiroa, by Petereto-Atearoa colt, kept the other nine at bay in the Mangere Handicap. The diminutive Gisborne horse was favourite.

The Campbell Handicap was secured by J. Bryce with Jolly Girl, with a head margin from Harold Junior, with Pax, the favourite, badly beaten.
