Behind The Scrum
Excluding the 1875 match, which waß not a representative one, Auckland and Wellington have met on nine occasions. Wellington have won five games, Auckland tbree, and one has been drawn. Total points scored by Wellington, 44 ; by Auckland, 45.
Mr Ellison, manager of the Wellington representative team, haß found it necessary to wire for additional men to make np the full complement for the Hawke's Bay match, played to day. The team left home with only one emergency back, and have since lost the services of three back players, viz, Woods, through suspension, Howe, by reason of an accident last Saturday, and Ross, through illness.
Auckland's victory on Saturday was primarily due to the magnificant work of the forward division. From the very first they displayed greater power in the scrums, and their superiority in this respect became more and more manifest aa the game progressed. In the open, also, they displayed good form, the following up and tackling being particularly sound. In line-out work, however, they were scarcely so successful as their opponents, who aIBO showed them some points, both as regarded fast passing and dribbling rushes.
