ONGAONGA.

. There has been quite an increase in the number of bikes here during the last month or so, and consequently there is a good bit of racing throngh the township every night. The best rider is S V, who will have to be scratch man in any future eventß ; and about the worst is J 8, but perhaps if he had a good machine he might do a little better. J can tell some good fairies about his quick riding, but that quick riding always happens when there is no one else with btm. J also claims that he has the best bike in the district. He says he rode clean over a cliff andstill it didn't break. It is a pity all machines are not as strong as that one. ..C B looks well on the Victor, but I am afraid if he wants to win a race he will have to go a little faster ; but you won't be last so long as J S is about. . Why does B V like to get near the smithy so much, and to so often stop to light his lamp in the shade of the trees?. .A very successful concert and dance took place here last Friday in aid of the local cricket club. The floor was in a very bad state, which made it very uncomfortable for the large number of dancers. Dancing was kept up. with great spirit till an early hour in the morning. The M C was not in his be3t form, but 1 suppose he was thinking of N H all the time.
